A Lowcountry Callawassie Christmas
Making Spirits Bright
By Pat Ano
It is the season of glad tidings and cheer! In keeping with the nature of our Lowcountry, Callawassie is festooned with our luscious natural greenery: magnolia, camellia, loblolly pine, grasses, moss, and pinecones! Our beautiful clubhouses are decked out in their holiday finest! Join us for a tour!
As you approach the Clubhouse, greenery and lanterns reflect the warmth of the season. The entry welcomes you with serene Lowcountry charm. Illuminated garland guide you up the stairway where magnolia greens, pinecones, glowing lanterns and wrapped gifts beckon you to enter.
The foyer is graced by our “children’s tree” decked out in red and white peppermint ornaments, gingerbread men, and cookies for Santa. Jars of candy canes and colorful ribbon candy are displayed on a carpet of snow. Bring your children and grandchildren and watch their eyes widen with anticipation!
Yards and yards of garland embellish our grand stairway, adorned with sugar pinecones dressed in red bows. A dramatic urn, with red dogwood branches as the centerpiece, overflows with spruce, pine, and magnolia boughs on the landing. But keep going, the best is yet to come.
The Grill Room features Christmas lanterns, magnolia, and pinecones. An elf-size Christmas tree glitters in the corner of the bar. A lovely twinkling cedar garland decorates the entry to the Magnolia Room where you can enjoy the woodland tree and décor. The nature-themed tree includes tree boughs, feathers, and pinecones of every size. Can you find all the whimsical bottlebrush “critters”? The sideboard decor has twinkling birch trees, “deer” pinecones and flickering candlelight, all neat treasures from the woodland. Swags of magnolia and pine adorn the windows, cachepots of magnolia and balsam branches perch on the mantle by a cozy fire. This is a great spot for a private holiday lunch or dinner with family and friends.
Our Palmetto Room continues the Lowcountry Christmas theme invoking our beautiful marshes, with antique oyster plates and a tree adorned with over a hundred oyster shells, starfish, and burlap garland.
Peek at the Golf Pro Shop with a dressed tree fitting for the golfers. It is all about plaid, copper, and “birdies” with a touch of Island flora.
The Fitness Center welcomes owners with greenery and red ribbons. The foyer has a huge lantern with silver, sea salt, and magical fairy lights to convey our holiday spirit.
The River Club holiday decor reflects our coastal Carolina beaches and rivers with shades of sea salt and driftwood, sea blue globes, starfish, and pine bedeck the tree trimmed with delightfully wrapped presents. Accents of wreaths, ribbons, greens, and oyster shells add to the festive scene. On the screen porch, enjoyed through the holidays, there are two petite trees on each end of the dining area reflecting the nature of our rivers and oceans. Swags with oysters embellish the porch, and twinkle on the outside pergola. Enjoy holiday festivities with stunning views of the Colleton River.
A big “thank you” to all the creative and hardworking volunteers who begin preparation in the early fall months for another wonderful Christmas display.
